Is PowerNotes secure and where can I find privacy policy details?

Terms of Use can be found here. View our Privacy Policy here.

Tell me more about PowerNotes’ Accessibility features.

You can find details and updates of current accessibility features and future updates here.

How do I set up a PowerNotes pilot?

Contact the PowerNotes Sales Team to see if your class or institution qualifies for the PowerNotes Pilot Program. Note, Pilots involving AI or any other Add-ons require a fee.

What is closed versus open AI prompting?

In addition to standard prompting where users ask the AI questions and the AI draws upon its training for answers (we call this “Open Prompting”), PowerNotes also allows “Closed Prompting.” Open Prompting can lead to incorrect results as the AI has been known to completely make things up or “hallucinate.” This is a particular problem when the AI is asked to identify sources for attribution. Closed Prompting attempts to minimize those hallucinations. As students find, evaluate, and read sources in PowerNotes and start to save, organize, and annotate passages, student curated content is pulled into our system. This content can then easily be used as part of the input prompt in a Brainstorm session. This Closed Prompting has advantages over Open Prompting in that the sources and facts that the AI is drawing upon are now limited to the research that the students have gathered—sources that have already been evaluated and verified by the student. We have found this generates more targeted and factually correct responses from the AI.

Where can I learn more about pricing?

You can find information on Individual and Classroom plans here. If you would like to learn about institutional pricing, contact the PowerNotes Sales Team. The Sales Team can also discuss AI and Add-on packages with you.

What happens if we don’t re-up our plan?

Once your plan expires, members of your Community or Institution will no longer have Premium Access to PowerNotes. If they would like to continue using we recommend that they look into Individual plans. Before your plan expires, we recommend that you notify your members so that they can export any content that they need access to - if you’re part of a bigger organization, PowerNotes can send an email to your users.

I’m not able to purchase PowerNotes, but want my students to use it. What can I do?

PowerNotes gives all users a free 2-week trial, so make sure to take advantage of this. We are also able to list PowerNotes as an “e-textbook” on your school’s bookstore website. This gives students the option to tap into their financial aid when purchasing a PowerNotes plan.

Student gets a message that the extension cannot be installed/is blocked.

Many institutions prohibit their emails from being used to log in to a browser. Use a personal email address to log in to the browser. Use your school email address to log in to the PowerNotes extension.

I installed the extension but don’t see it anywhere.

You’ll need to “pin” the extension to your browser’s toolbar. Click on the puzzle piece icon in your browser’s toolbar (top right). A list of extensions that you have installed will appear. In the list, click on the pin icon next to PowerNotes. The extension icon should now be displayed in your browser toolbar.

Student says they created a PowerNotes account, but can’t log in.

Student says they did a bunch of work but now they don’t see it in their Project Outline.

Usually, when this happens, the student has accidentally created two PowerNotes accounts. The work was done in one account, but when they come back they login to the other account and don’t see it. Have them try logging into PowerNotes with a different email address that they may have used. If they don’t have any luck, contact the PowerNotes support team.

Student attempts to export their Project Outline to begin writing, but all or some of the citations are missing.

Because PowerNotes grabs metadata provided by sources to generate citations, we require that citations be ‘approved’ in order to be automatically included in an export.

How do I make the PowerNotes extension go away? I see it all the time!

In your browser’s toolbar click on the PowerNotes extension icon. In the menu that appears, you’ll have the option to turn the extension off. When you’re ready to use it again, navigate to the same place to switch the extension on. If you want to delete the PowerNotes extension completely from your browser, right-click on the extension icon and select the “remove” option.
